Is there a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? There may be in the Genting Highlands where you'll find the only legal land-based casino in Malaysia. About an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur, Genting's First World Hotel was recently declared the largest hotel in the world by Guinness World Records.
The First World Hotel, comprising 6,118 rooms, is now recognised as 'the world's largest' under the Feats of Engineering for Big Buildings. The previous titleholder was MGM Grand Hotel & Casino at Las Vegas with a record 5,005 rooms.
Together with five other hotels, Genting Hotel, Highlands Hotel, Resort Hotel, Theme Park Hotel and Awana Genting, seven kilometres down the hill, Genting - City Of Entertainment now boasts over 10,000 rooms. Last year, more than 18 million people visited Genting which is 2,000 metres above sea level and the temperature rarely gets over 30 degrees Celcius.
Genting's award-winning indoor and outdoor theme parks offer over 50 different rides such as the Flying Coaster, Sky Venture (only two of such rides in the world) and Snow World (the largest in South East Asia). New this year will be the latest Mini Train and Crazy Space Lap.
Many exciting shows and concerts are also coming to Genting with performers like Sir Cliff Richard, and Mysteria featuring master illusionist from Las Vegas, acrobats and great dancers from all over the world.
In line with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 and 50 years of Nationhood, Genting is featuring over 50 exciting events and activities to encourage more visitors to Malaysia. These events include the 50th Nationhood World Lion Dance Championship, World Gourmet Festival and Michelin Star Culinary Festival. |
